Meteorologists are talking about the “summer monsoon” – areas with higher pressure than the Mediterranean and Scandinavia are causing heat, but the interference has settled directly into Germany, causing continuous heavy rain. Particularly notable is that this type of interference is barely moving and remains largely stationary in certain areas.
The focus of this weather situation will take place through Southern Germany over the next few days.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has warned of possible heavy rains and severe thunderstorms in southern Germany by Tuesday. Thunderstorms over the weekend are mainly concentrated in the southern regions of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
At the beginning of the week, the Alps sway before the rain. South of the line from Saarland to Dresden is expected again and again until Tuesday – in a place with partial showers, thunderstorms, hugs and stormy gusts.
Between the Black Forest and Bavarian Forest, particularly south of the Danube, there is a high risk of heavy rain. Local flooding and high water can occur.
North of the line from Saaland to Saxony, the weather often becomes friendly – with repeated clearings and longer sunny spells. However, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible.
Only “midsummer” temporarily
On Wednesday, July 30th, there are generally signs of short calm. An extension of the Azores will temporarily push the remaining obstacles east. Most of Germany will see more sunlight, and temperatures climb back to summer at 27 degrees in some places.
However, this friendly weather spell can be short-lived.
According to calculations from the current model, high pressure areas cannot maintain themselves in the long run. The top priority weather conditions leave room for new and disruptive systems to settle in the southern and southeastern Germany, particularly in Germany.
Big differences in Europe
The extreme heat waves of Sweden and Norway are slowly sinking. The heat was measured for up to 13 days in the area near the Arctic. However, the fever may return as soon as next week.
In Portugal, temperatures are currently normal during this period, with weather warnings being at “yellow” levels. There was a massive heat wave at the end of June, which appears to have led to excessive mortality, especially among the elderly.
Italy currently enjoys isolated showers and moderate weather with temperatures of around 25 degrees.
In Spain, showers are currently frequent in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, but in the south it is hot, with temperatures between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in Spain are generally lower than in other years.
