Woman shot to death by ICE agent during immigration raid in Minneapolis

Must read

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday as they raided major American cities as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

A video circulating online shows the 37-year-old woman blocking the road as officers approach her car and order her to open the door and get out. As the woman drove forward, another ICE officer standing in front of the vehicle drew his weapon and fired at the SUV at close range.

The woman’s car then rammed into two cars parked several meters away, colliding and coming to a halt. It is not clear from the video whether the vehicle made contact with officers.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called the incident an “act of domestic terrorism” and claimed the woman tried to run the officer over with her car.

President Donald Trump echoed this stance, defending ICE’s efforts by calling women “professional agitators.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed the federal government’s claims, instead accusing ICE of causing chaos in the city and calling for the agency to leave Minneapolis.

“They’re already trying to report this as an act of self-defense,” he said at a news conference. “You saw my video and I want to say it directly to you: It’s bullshit.”

“What they are doing is not providing security for America. What they are doing is creating chaos and mistrust. They are tearing families apart,” Frey added.

In a separate television interview with CNN, Frey added that it was clear the woman did not intend to run anyone over and was trying to flee, and said this action does not authorize the use of deadly force.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, also criticized the incident, calling it part of a “propaganda machine.”

The Minnesota City Council identified the woman as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Goodbye, the mother of a 6-year-old child, and said she was “caring for a neighbor this morning, and today her life was taken at the hands of the federal government.”

Hundreds of people gathered in Minneapolis on Wednesday to hold a vigil for the woman and protest ICE raids and President Trump’s immigration crackdown.
