Approximately 800 ships, joined by thousands of small boats, sailed from Imuden along the North Sea Canal before entering Ijaben Port. The crowds lined up the waterways and saw processions containing naval ships, heritage ships, Dutch fleets and modern crafts.
The five-day event opened with 3-must Clippers Amsterdamgreeted by cannon fire, horns and orange smoke.
The sails were held every five years and last attracted 2.3 million visitors in 2015. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the pandemic. This year coincides with Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary.
