The demonstration marked one year since the parliamentary election, which rebels continue to claim was rigged. Demonstrators carried Georgian, EU and US flags, and opposition politicians also joined the march.
Former President Salome Zurabichvili attended the rally and told the crowd that she believed new elections and a new political environment were on the horizon. Participants said they were demonstrating to ensure fair elections and put Georgia on track for closer ties with Europe.
Demonstrators also demanded the release of the detainees and said their rallies would continue. Organizers said the demonstrations would not stop until what they called a victory for the Georgian people was achieved.
