This Sunday, hundreds of people gathered on the ultra-saline shores of Argentina’s Lake Mar Chiquita to attempt a Guinness World Record for the most people floating simultaneously.
The event was held as part of the second Festival de la Planchita in Miramar, which attracted more than 1,941 participants and aims to surpass the milestone set almost 10 years ago.
The current record was set in 2017 in Lake Epecuen, another salty lagoon in Argentina, where 1,941 people successfully formed a giant floating ring.
To break this record, organizers must coordinate a group of at least 1,942 people to float unaided for a specified period of time.
Due to Marchiquita’s high salt concentration, there is natural buoyancy in the water, making it easy for even novice swimmers to float, making it an ideal venue for this feat.
