Researchers have discovered a “megacity” of giant spiders inside Sulfur Cave, a cave on the border of Albania and Greece, according to the journal Subterranean Biology.
The colony, which measures approximately 110 square meters, contains approximately 69,000 Tegenaria domestica and 42,000 Prineligone veigan spiders living in a single interconnected web.
Scientists say the web thrives in a dark, humid ecosystem and could be the largest of its kind ever recorded.
The footage was shot by István Ulak, and the photos were taken by Czech cave explorer Marek Audi.
