Speaking at the event, Xi said, “providing strategic support for the realization of great rejuvenation for the Chinese nation” and “accelerating world-class military buildings.”
The parade, celebrating its 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, showed off missiles, modern fighter jets and other military forces as China aims to have a major impact on the global stage. Some military hardware has been made public for the first time.
The growing display of China’s military power has sparked concerns among Asian neighbours and parts of the US, with some Western leaders moving away from the event.
