Mount Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaii has resumed its intermittent eruptions, with fountains of bright red lava lighting up the night sky.
The latest activity, which has captivated residents and visitors for nearly a year, begins Dec. 6 and includes fountains that reach heights of 50 to 100 feet from a north cone-shaped spout.
Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey continue to monitor active seismic activity and lava behavior, but the eruption remains confined to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
There are currently no nearby communities at risk.
