German dancer-singer twins Alice and Ellen Kessler, who rose to fame in the 1950s, have died at the age of 89 in what Munich police described as a “communal suicide.”
The sisters, who lived together in Grünwald, near Munich, began their careers as teenagers, leaving East Germany in 1952 to join the Revue Theater in West Germany.
They built an international career in Paris and later performed with artists such as Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, and Harry Belafonte.
The Kessler twins continued to perform on stage late in life and remained active in the entertainment industry for decades.
