The National Weather Service said Saturday night that widespread heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain threatened nearly 180 million people, more than half of the U.S. population, in a stretch stretching from the southern Rocky Mountains to New England.
Aerial video from Oklahoma City on Sunday showed roads and highways covered in snow and emergency personnel responding to a traffic accident caused by the heavy snow.
Department of Transportation officials treated roads with salt water and snowplows cleared snow from roads as forecasters warned people to prepare for frigid days.
