Ukraine carried out multiple attacks on Russian targets on Monday, damaging an oil terminal, a pipeline, two fighter jets and two ships, Ukrainian officials said.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced on Monday that its forces attacked the Taman Neftegaz oil terminal, ammunition storage facility and drone launch site in Russia and Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory.

A large fire broke out in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, damaging a pipeline, two docks and two ships, the statement said. Ukrainian authorities have not disclosed which weapons systems were deployed in the operation.

The General Staff added that a Ukrainian-made missile struck a temporary facility of Russia’s 92nd River Boat Brigade in Olenivka, occupied Crimea.

Another attack targeted an ammunition depot in the Russian-occupied region of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, the statement said, with the aim of disrupting Russian advances. A Russian drone launch facility was also damaged.

In a separate attack, Ukrainian partisans set ablaze two Russian fighter jets at an airfield near Lipetsk in western Russia on Sunday night, according to a report by Ukrainian military intelligence.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said only that its military intercepted multiple Ukrainian drones overnight, including three over the Krasnodar region.

The operation is part of Ukraine’s continued strategy to disrupt Russia’s military capabilities and attack targets behind enemy lines as Russia continues its nearly four-year war.

The attack was also aimed at disputing President Vladimir Putin’s assertion that Russia has a strong military position in the US-led peace talks, a key issue that has yet to be resolved.

Moscow continues its war of attrition

Russia continues to wage a war of attrition, targeting settlements in Donbass (a term referring to Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine), parts of the region it occupies and remains key to its maximalist demands for an end to the war.

In the Donetsk region’s Kostyantinyvka area, the Ukrainian General Staff reported on Monday that Russian forces carried out 27 attacks around several settlements in the past 24 hours.

The front-line city, home to 67,000 people before the war, has been reduced to around 4,300 residents, including children whose parents refused to evacuate.

According to a Ukrainian military report, Russian airstrikes destroyed entire neighborhoods and constant surveillance by drones forced pedestrians to seek shelter under trees and roofs.

Ukraine’s defenses have so far prevented Russian forces from advancing deep into the city.

The Russian government also continues its campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, seeking to deprive civilians of heating and water supplies during the winter.

Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s power systems since launching a full-scale invasion in early 2022, a tactic Kiev has described as “weaponizing winter.”

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry announced that energy facilities across five regions of Ukraine were attacked overnight.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 86 drones of various types into Ukraine overnight. Ukrainian defense forces destroyed 58 of them, officials said.
