Edinburgh is one of the most underrated cities in Europe. It has great architecture, a lively lifestyle, an incredible history and more. Ah, did I mention the Harry Potter book that started and ended here in Edinburgh? Yes, JK Rowling has begun writing Harry Potter books here in Edinburgh. Additionally, she completed her last book at the Balmoral Hotel and booked a room only to complete the last book.
So, where is the Harry Potter location to visit in Edinburgh?

Elephant CafΓ©
The first place to visit Edinburgh for Harry Potter fans is the Elephant House Cafe. It is located at 21 George Street, near the town centre. Of course, almost every Harry Potter fan visiting Edinburgh has this on their list of must-see locations. So you should expect a big crowd and waiting line in the summer. But what do you know, it’s worth the wait. This is where high school girl Rowling sat down every day to write her first and second books. Because it was cheaper to pay a cup of coffee than to pay heating at home. Needless to say, she ended in a very different situation.

Balmoral Hotel
The final book was finished in the standard room of the Balmoral Hotel, one of Edinburgh’s most famous luxury hotels. JK Rowling said in an interview that she was so distracted at home when she finished the final book that she checked into the hotel to complete her sixth book, and carved her name on the furniture! You can also visit the Balmoral Hotel for high tea or book a room with the final book completed.

Greyfriars Kirkyard
From Elephant Cafe, JK Rowling was able to source much of her inspiration into what she saw from the window. The beginning of these sights was the Greyfriars Killyard, the cemetery where Tom Riddle’s grave lives. This became a sight for hardcore Potter fans to pay tribute to Voldemort.

George Herriot’s School
Built in 1628, George Heriot’s school has four houses and four towers, making it a clear source of inspiration for Hogwarts’ School of Magic and Magic.

Camera unclear
As a final post, I wanted to find some fun activities in Edinburgh, so I was able to escape reality that day (like a book that was allowed to do so). Camera unclear For some real illusions.
