When speaking a phrase, you will be immediately allowed not to think about the Polish capital “The charm of the old town”. However, for a few days to discover and discover the city of Warsaw in Poland, I am sure this is one of the big cities that has been forgotten in some way back then, and perhaps even in Europe.
First impression: Old town
Upon landing at Warsaw International Airport, I dashed easily to the ATM, walked to the cablank, and was led by a nearby taxi on a young English-speaking pole in a uniform. Despite everything I read online about my arrival in Warsaw, the entire process was very smooth, fast, most importantly and safe. It took 50 Zroti to arrive at the hotel around the old town.
We checked in to our room at Mamaizezon Luregina, the most famous luxury hotel in Warsaw. Due to the advantageous exchange rate, we were able to book rooms for under $100 per night, including a free ROM upgrade from online booking. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and concluded that it was no wonder they rave about this hotel as the best option for luxury accommodation in Warsaw.
The old town itself was incredibly charming. Especially when I arrived in the evening, the street was lit up with Christmas lights, decorations and a huge Christmas tree! There is a moderately sized ice rink in the middle of the old town, and there are also several Christmas stalls in December. Despite its reputation as one of the less attractive cities in Europe, the old town itself is reason enough to visit Warsaw. It’s incredibly underrated and I think the only way to convince you even further is to explore the old town with the following travel snaps I took during the day!
Dig deeper: Communist Tour
On my second day in Warsaw, I wanted to experience history, culture and local Polish cuisine. I booked the 149 Zloty adventure Warsaw and Communist tour and gathered me for a 3-4 hour tour that morning. I was just as enjoyable as I was stacked up behind an old Communist van with four other visitors and was all educational all day.
The tour stopped at many points of interest in the city, but the highlight of the tour visited the Praga district, where it entered the “Communist Museum” (created and operated by the same tour company). Here we were able to see different rooms that demonstrated what life was like under communist rule. Finally, I concluded it with a shot of Polish vodka and biscuits. Ha!
The final stop on the tour was to visit a local milk bar and sample some truly authentic Polish food. I’m talking dumplings, bread, heartfelt dishes, and the scary beetroot soup in a glass that I really couldn’t do!!!

While in Warsaw, Poland, there are plenty of museums and points of interest. I highly recommend the Warsaw Uprising Museum, the Royal Route (following Krakowkipruzedmiesie), the Palace of Williano and the Jewish Museum.

If you want to combine a visit to Warsaw with other destinations in Poland, we highly recommend visiting Krakow, Gdansk Or even wrocla. Head further east and you can take the night train. Kyiv, Ukraine (Via LVIV – it’s also worth stopping). I’ll take you further east to Russia. That’s why I highly recommend visiting Moscow and St. Petersburgespecially if you’re a history lover like me!
