Reports said he was killed by four people, but further details were not immediately available. Saif al-Islam’s political adviser Abdullah Othman confirmed the death in a short Facebook post, but did not specify the circumstances or identify those responsible.
His French lawyer, Marcel Checardi, told AFP news agency that the identity of the assailant remains unknown.
“Right now we don’t know” who was behind the killing, Chekardi said, adding that he was told about 10 days ago by one of Seif al-Islam’s aides that “there is a security issue.”
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s political team issued an official statement mourning his death and saying preparations were underway to recover his body.
