Royal Style of the Show: Queen Elizabeth’s Wardrobe Takes the Focus at the 2026 Exhibition

From color-blocked coats to coronation gowns, Queen Elizabeth IIThe wardrobe was nothing but twin sets and pearls. Soon, the public will have an unusual opportunity to see the late Monarch style up close.

The major new exhibition, Queen Elizabeth II: Her Style of Life, is set to open at King’s Gallery Buckingham Palace In the spring of 2026, I marked what was supposed to be my 100th birthday in Ma. The show charts throughout the Queen’s life fashionApproximately 200 pieces are on display.

The Royal Collection Trust, which currently oversees the Queen’s clothing archive, says it is the largest costume ever to be performed and has over 200 items on display. Expect a full fashion timeline: from the 8-year-old silver glitter bridesmaid dress at my uncle’s wedding in 1934, to the 1947 Norman Heartnell Isle, her Corner Crown Dress, and many wedding dresses in classic coats, handbags and headscarves that defined her general image.

“In the year she turned 100, the exhibition will celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s unique British style and her lasting fashion legacy,” said Caroline de Guitar, curator of the exhibition.

She added that the display highlights “a lifetime of thoughtful style choices, from her practical role and the understanding of the soft power behind her clothes, to the extraordinary craftsmanship behind each garment.”

The show also sheds light on the diplomatic messages behind many of her fashion choices. One outstanding example was the green and white gown worn at a 1961 provincial banquet in Pakistan, designed in the colours of the host country’s flag.

Visitors can expect design sketches, fabric watches, and even handwritten notes, giving them a glimpse into the styling of the world’s most famous women. From Hardy Amies and Ian Thomas evening dresses to casual tweed, tartan skirts and horse riding jackets, the exhibition promises to reflect the Queen’s official and informal style.

The Palace has confirmed that the show will run from spring until fall 2026, but ticket details will not be made public until November 2025. Companion Book, Queen Elizabeth II: Fashion and Stylefeaturing essays from fashion historians and designers, will also be published in line with the opening.

“During the very long reign of Queen Elizabeth II, her unique style became instantly recognised around the world, strengthening the British fashion industry and influencing designers and couturiers for generations,” says De Guitar.
