US President Donald Trump welcomed him saying “Monday” as Ukraine’s Voldymee Zelenki and his European allies arrived in the US capital for a major meeting to end the Russian war in Ukraine.
Washington’s discussion follows the summit Trump held last Friday in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After a meeting between heads of state, Trump revealed that negotiations on the possibility of a ceasefire have been pushed aside as Moscow’s all-out war continues into its fourth year.
However, this led to concerns over the possibility of concessions to the Russian side. The Russian side is believed to have repeated its biggest demands, including seeking full control of the four Ukrainian regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zapolizia and Herson.
The list of people expected to be in the room on Monday includes German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Finland President Alexander Stubb.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Latte will also be present.
