Joe Karov, the film poster designer and creator of the iconic James Bond 007 logo, dies at age 103

Famous American graphic designer Joe Karov passed away at the age of 103.

Karov’s death was confirmed one day before his 104th birthday – by his sons Peter and Michael. New York Times on sunday.

He was best known for designing the iconic 007 logo James Bond franchise – Logo displayed on all posters and marketing for 007 – See number 7 transform into a gun.

Caroff was paid only $300 for the James Bond logo in 1963, but there was no royalty. To add humiliation to the injury, he was not included in the film credits and was not given any residue of the items sold.

However, producers of the time, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, offered him an Omega watch with a sculpture of the 007 logo for his 100th birthday.

Born in Linden, New Jersey on August 18, 1921, Karov was also behind some of the most iconic Hollywood posters.

It was in these West Side Story, The Last Tango in Paris, Manhattan, cabaret and Rollerball. He was also responsible for designing the opening title sequence for Richard Attenborough. The bridge is too far and Martin Scorsese‘s The Last Temptation of Christ.

Karov retired in 2006. His 81-year-old wife, Phyllis, passed away earlier this year at the age of 101.

He is survived by his son, stepdaughter and his granddaughter.
