Israel wants to stop aid in northern Gaza to escalate the attack in Gaza city

Must read

Israel wants to slow or stop aid intrusion into Northern Gaza, an official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

It comes when Israel launched an expanded military attack in Gaza city, announced earlier this month and sparked international condemnation.

On Friday, Israel declared the besieged city a combat zone, claiming that despite previous massive attacks in the area through nearly 23 months of attack, the network of tunnels used by Hamas still remains.

Hospital authorities reported that at least 50 Palestinians were killed in Saturday’s Israeli attack, including 26 in Gaza city.

Israel called on Palestinians to evacuate south of the strip as the military escalated an attack on Gaza last week, and the Red Cross warned.

“The massive evacuation of Gaza city is not only impractical, but also incomprehensible,” ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric said in a statement on Saturday.

“This kind of evacuation will lead to large population migration that the Gaza Strip region cannot absorb, given the widespread destruction of private infrastructure and the extreme shortage of food, water, shelter and healthcare,” she added.

Israeli security officials appear to acknowledge logistics challenges, informing local media that Gaza city is evacuating later than expected.

Spoljaric demanded that all civilians must be protected by international humanitarian law.

Aid groups also warn that massive evacuations will further exacerbate the tragic humanitarian crisis. Earlier this month, key authority on the food crisis confirmed that Gaza city is in hunger and half a million people across the strip are facing catastrophic levels of hunger.

On Thursday, the United Nations announced that 23,000 people had been evacuated over the week. But many people in Gaza City say it’s not safe anywhere.
