If you find yourself visiting Taipei, you may consider a day trip to Jufen. The mountainous region of northeastern Taiwan is one of the most popular day trips from Taipei, and for good reason. First of all, it is very picturesque with narrow alleys, tea houses and charms of the Old World. Secondly, there is an incredible choice of Taiwanese food and local delicacies (and more, some of the best bubble teas you’ll find in the country!)

Go to Jiufen from Taipei
The easiest way to visit Jufen is by bus. Trains are also offered, but jumping on a bus in Taipei is faster, easier and cheaper. Travel time from Taipei to Jiu-Jitsu is approximately 60-90 minutes depending on the traffic. The bus costs just a few dollars, making it a cheap day trip to take a photo yourself (though many companies offer day trips if you want to use the guide).
Which bus should I take?
take Bus number 965 It works between Banquiao and Yunge Ashi from Taipei to Jufen. The bus runs every 30-40 minutes during peak hours and every 40-60 minutes during peak hours. The best time to visit is outside of the peak traffic hours in Taipei. This is because it took a significant amount of time to return to Taipei when I returned from Jufen after sunset.

What to do with Jufen?
Jufen is generally considered the foodie capital of Taiwan. Also, I have the best bubble tea on my trip, so get ready to try some local delicacies on a hungry day!
If you want to enjoy sweets, there is a wide variety of items at Jufen. This was good to be a vegetarian as I had missed out on a lot of local food before, but alas, Jufen didn’t disappoint! Some of the best sweet delicacies offered at Jufen are:
- Brown Sugar Bubble Tea
- Peanut Ice Cream Roll
- Taro ball soup
- rice cake
Another highlight of foodies visiting Jufen is the traditional tea shop. These tea shops go back to Japanese rules and feel like a step back in time. The best two I can recommend are A-Mei Teahouse and Jufenty House.
