How to visit Dracula’s Castle in Transylvania

Must read

Draculus Castle

For too long I have kept my mind in visiting Dracula’s Castle in Transylvania. Perhaps it was just one of my childhood dreams that I thought would never have come to fruition. Or perhaps there are many more readers who like to visit the castle as well. But anyway, it finally happened in March 2014. Har is a guide on how to visit Dracula’s Castle in Transylvania.

How to visit Dracula’s Castle

I based in Blasov for four days and had enough time to explore Transylvania. I wanted to include a day trip to Perez Castle and Blanc Castle (Dracula Castle). Depending on whether you want to rent a car and explore the area yourself, or whether you want to hire a driver/participate in a tour guide, there will be some time you will need to spend in Transylvania.

I decided to book a personal driver for the day I picked up our friend Laura from the hotel at 10am. Within just a few hours, we allowed enough time to see and discover both castles and stopped at Rasnov’s fortress on the Blasov drive..

Arrived at Blanc

When we arrived in Blanc, we discovered that the town essentially depends on tourism from the castle. I heard from the driver that the food at the town’s restaurants wasn’t memorable, but I tried my luck at a nearby cafe and opted for hot chocolate. So there are lessons learned. Stuff snacks and don’t resort to the food from the restaurant here – you’ll be disappointed!

We each handed 25 cash registers to enter the castle (about $8), wandered the steep tree-lined paths, reaching the castle entrance. Once there we went inside, handed our tickets, climbed the stairs and into the rooms with the first view. Certainly, it is clear that the castle has been modified to reflect a more modern era. There is a sofa chair and a very present foul smell of fresh paint. However, it was also nice to see the castle being extremely well maintained. This is probably the product of a castle that was bought back by the royal family and now owned privately.

It offers the best views overlooking the courtyard, with the history (and myths) of the castle, and placards in the range of impalers on the walls of the viewing room.

Overall, it was a great day to explore Dracula’s Castle. We recommend this day’s trip to Romania. I can honestly say I am happy to have travelled this way to see it in my body!
