Vintgar Valley Vacations
There is no denying that Vintgar Valley is one of the most naturally beautiful places in Slovenia. A mile-long man-made boardwalk criss-crosses the canyon, making it a photographer’s dream.
It is also one of the most accessible destinations in Slovenia due to its proximity to Lake Bled. The Vintgar Valley is just a 15-minute drive from Lake Bled. You can also cycle and follow the pedestrian signs if you feel like it.
So what is the Vintgar Valley?
Vintgar Gorge is a 1.6 km long gorge located within Triglav National Park. The emerald green sea and natural beauty make it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Slovenia. What makes this canyon so special is the man-made boardwalk that is suspended above the canyon and criss-crosses over the flowing water.
when to visit
Slovenia’s peak season is July and August, so if you’re visiting during the warmer months, you can expect to share the boardwalk with many other tourists. During the summer, the valley opens at 7am. If you want this place to yourself, be sure to arrive just before opening time. If you are unable to visit Vintgar Gorge early in the morning, the next best time is two hours before closing (8pm in summer).

Access to Vintgar Valley
The Vintgar Valley is only a 10-15 minute drive from Bled, so walking or cycling is an option. Parking is expensive at 5 euros, so if you want to save some change, park near the valley or walk or bike from Bled.
Once you arrive, you can purchase your ticket at the gate and enter immediately. If you arrive at the opening time, you can see the valley in about an hour. If you arrive during the day or in the afternoon, you will be sharing the boardwalk with many other tourists, so in this case it will take several hours to see the valley.
The first part of the canyon is the most impressive and ideal for photography. At about the halfway point, before the crowds gathered, I turned around and enjoyed the promenade mostly on my own.
This is one of the most popular activities near Bled. For the best experience, arrive early and have your camera ready.
