If you could name just one place, it would be Montenegro My favorite is the idyllic fishing village of Perast. Just a 20-minute drive from popular Kotor, Perast is a hidden gem.
Neatly located away from bustling Kotor, it’s the perfect place for travelers who prefer solitude. If you’re wondering how to get to Perast, this guide will help you plan your stay.
Perast feels like a combination of Lake Como and Venice, especially when the summer sun is shining. Here is a complete guide on how to visit Perast. Our tips will help you make the most of your time in this idyllic town on the Bay of Kotor.

How to get to Perast, Montenegro
When you come to Montenegro, you’ll probably plan to visit the Bay of Kotor, which is home to some of the most beautiful towns and villages in the country.
Perast is just a 20-minute drive from Kotor, Montenegro’s most popular tourist destination. The easiest way is to self-drive, but if you’re feeling up to it and the weather is nice, you can enjoy a beautiful bike ride along the bay from Kotor to Perast.
If your cross-border travel plans include Dubrovnik, a trip to Perast is easy enough as a day trip, taking only two hours by car (maybe a little longer if you have time to cross the border in the summer).

Our Lady of the Rocks
When you arrive in Perast, you’ll quickly realize that it only takes about an hour to explore the entire city. This includes time to climb the stairs for views of the bay and the city below.
A great must-do activity in Perast is to take a water taxi for 5 euros. From the mainland, you can visit the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks.

Perast: Restaurant
Due to Perast’s idyllic surroundings, we were sure that the prices for food and drinks would be astronomical. The good news is that it wasn’t. My favorite eateries (and I’ve visited several) are: Admiral Restaurantright in front of the Admiral Hotel. I was surprised there weren’t great reviews online as both the food and service were excellent.
Another great restaurant I dined at was Hotel Conte. Located in front of a famous hotel, this restaurant is considered one of the best restaurants in Perast. I recommend the grilled goat cheese salad!
