Forget Bora Bora, this is Tahiti’s most luxurious resort

Must read

When you think of overwater bungalows, crystal clear lagoons, and balmy nights as the sun lights up the sky, it’s no wonder that Bora Bora comes to mind. But after visiting Bora Bora last year and refocusing on Tahiti’s other islands this year, I realized it had so much more to offer than the typical honeymoon hot spot. Even though I confessed my love, Moorea Because it’s my favorite island in Tahiti. Le Taha’a My favorite resort located on a private island and definitely the most luxurious resort in Tahiti.

Before arriving on Taha’a, I had heard from several locals how beautiful Taha’a is and about the authentic local Tahitian experience. Having previously visited Bora Bora, Moorea, and Papeete, I wasn’t sure how a new island destination would surpass my previous experiences, but I was about to realize how much there was that I had yet to discover in Tahiti.

When you think of Tahiti as a honeymoon destination, what immediately comes to mind is a visit to Bora Bora, commonly referred to as the crown jewel of the island of Tahiti. However, after arriving at Le Taha’a for a short stay and comparing it to the more popular islands of Bora Bora and Mo’orea, I can confidently say that it is the perfect choice for a honeymoon with its own private island and endless activities to discover.

When booking an island escape at Le Taha’a Island Resort, you’ll have to make an important decision: choose an overwater bungalow or a beachside villa. Stepping out onto the deck every morning with the option to jump into the ocean from your balcony was an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I decided to stay in an overwater bungalow with a private deck, ocean access, and a real aquarium at the foot of my bed.

The resort itself is located on a private island and is only a short boat ride (45-50 minutes) from the airport, with transportation provided by the resort. From secluded beaches to sloping palm trees, you can wander around the island and find a private spot to enjoy the sunset, or you can also choose to head to the bar for cocktail hour or a more sociable atmosphere.

Each overwater bungalow has everything you’ll never want outside: a large king-sized bed, a real aquarium at the foot of the bed, a double-sink bathroom, a private balcony, and direct access to the ocean. Of course, you’ll find state-of-the-art amenities like Wi-Fi and minibars, but you’ll be surprised at how short your stay will be, as there’s so much more to discover than your bungalow.

Of all the activities offered on the island, our standout favorite is the natural coral gardens adjacent to the resort, where you can enjoy the most unique snorkeling experience as you drift through shallow coral gardens, encountering endless marine wildlife along the way.

Most guests stay for at least a few nights, often a week, so there are plenty of activities on the island to keep you busy. We also enjoyed a seaplane experience to check out the islands of Tahiti from above. This is a great way to gain perspective and see more of Tahiti on a short flight.

On our final day, we sailed around the island aboard our own catamaran for the day. We agreed that this was a great way to see the islands of Tahiti with a group of friends (maybe next time!).
