The street explosion in a northern Peru area has been wreaked havoc by authorities, as it injured at least 10 people and damaged 25 homes, authorities said.

Home Minister Carlos Malabar said the Thursday night explosion in Trujillo city could be linked to conflicts between criminal groups involved primarily in the Frightor.

The explosion that interrupted electrical services in the area and affected an unknown number of vehicles was the second reported Thursday in a South American country.

The first occurred in the capital, Lima, but no injuries were reported immediately.

The explosive attacks, especially in small and medium-sized businesses, are reported almost daily by local media in Lima and other Peruvian cities.

There have also been reported explosions on public transport buses that result in injuries.

La Libertad’s government has previously admitted that crime sometimes overwhelms the police. The state emergency services agency said in a statement Friday that some of those injured in Thursday’s explosion suffered burns and reductions, but that didn’t further detail their condition.

According to official data, Peru’s Fear Tor complaints totaled 15,989 between January and July of this year, an increase of 28% compared to the same period in 2024.
