There are few places on Earth that feel so far excluded from civilization and the 21 technological boom.st The century was the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. After a short two-hour flight from Santiago to the airport, I landed at Calama Airport. My Explorer driver was nowhere to be seen, no one spoke English, and only three of the four wheels in my suitcase were tacting. What a journey I thought to myself. That was just the beginning.
About 30 minutes after I landed, my driver arrived and we started our 60-minute drive to the town of San Pedro, a small oasis in the middle of the Atacama Desert. When I came here I checked in at Hotel de Larache. Explore.
Explore We have reinvented the art of travel by placing our luxurious hotel Smack Bang anywhere, offering a unique experience. I had just experienced Explora Patagonia a few days before visiting Atacama, so after what seemed like the best four days of my life, my expectations were high.
But Explora Lodges isn’t your typical luxury hotel. There is no the overstanding, luxury or grandeur of a typical luxury hotel. Instead, they offer luxury to the experience rather than the appearance.
Every day, guests set out on an exploration at various points of interest near the lodge around 8:30am. There is half-day exploration and full-day exploration depending on your preferences and physical condition. Once you return from your exploration you will be rewarded with supplementing gourmet lunches, dinners and wines. But this is not a dul in the traditional sense. You’ve won it. Even trekking in the desert for seven hours or climbing volcanoes above 5,000 meters above sea level, they actually earn the right to indulge a little more than normal.
In the evening, Explorer will give useful talks on everything from astronomy to flora and fauna. So I felt like I had separated from my experience, learned everything I could, walked more than my body thought, and immersed myself in experiences that were different from others.
If you’re overworked yourself on a morning excursion, you can always rest in the afternoon to enjoy the pool, sauna or steam room. Enjoy a massage? The lodge is equipped with trained professionals and massage rooms to meet all your needs.
The rooms are basic, but the linens are lush, the bathroom amenities are luxurious, and gourmet chocolates find a way to bed every night with turndown service. The overall architecture of the property is traditional and preserved traditionally compared to the environment. This will allow you to enjoy the authentic experience.
Get there:
International guests will need to fly to the Chilean capital, Santiago, followed by a connecting flight to Calama. Explora drivers will gather you from the airport for free round-trip transfers to and from the lodge.

What to do when you’re here:
Atacama Explora offers over 20 trekking, over 10 bikes and over 10 horse rides. There are seven High Mountain climbs, but as they take place at high altitudes, you will need to stay at least 4 nights to participate in one of these (you can only climb at 1,000 meters above sea level).
