After 16 hours of talks, the EU summit in Brussels came to a dramatic conclusion. The important point is that the 90 billion euro check destined for Ukraine was financed with joint debt, but not with Russian funds. and the postponement of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. To find out more about the night’s twists and turns and the winners and losers, EU News Editor Maria Taddeo joins us in the studio.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also traveled to Brussels for a summit and warned EU leaders that there was a much bigger threat than litigation. He also spent hours meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever. Ukraine correspondent Sasha Vakulina explains President Zelenksky’s reaction to the outcome of the summit.
We also look at another big headline from this long EU summit in Brussels. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked for a postponement of the signing of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement…and she accepted. It’s a big victory for farmers who have been protesting around Brussels all day. Europe Today’s Aida Sanchez went to talk to them.
Finally, we will be going to the EU Council soon to host Euronews correspondent Shona Murray to report on what looks like a major failure for Brussels: the delay in the EU-Mercosur agreement.
