dubai A desert oasis filled with tranquility, wildlife, and Bedouin culture. But to find out what life was like before modern Dubai as we know it today, you need to escape the city. As many of you may know, I am not very good at history. I love understanding cultures on a deeper level, and just scratching the surface, Dubai allows you to do just that. So I set off on a cultural tour together. Platinum Heritage Safaris Head to Dubai to find peace in the desert.
Buckle up your 1948 Land Rover
This tour company is a unique tour company, offering a truly unique way to see the desert. To begin our adventure, we set out in a restored 1948 Land Rover. The adventure begins as soon as you get in your car and start hopping over the dunes. I was really lucky that my brother was able to ride with me too.
The desert safari begins with a Land Rover ride through the dunes. You can also encounter wild animals along the way. See oryx and gazelles as you tour Al Maha, a private desert reserve owned by Dubai’s royal family.
Bedouin experience
After our dune bashing experience, we headed to Platinum Heritage Desert Camp. When we arrived there was a half cup of Arabic coffee to welcome us to the camp. This is the age-old traditional Bedouin way of greeting visitors.
The sun was setting when we arrived early in the evening. This creates a magical atmosphere when you arrive at camp. Suddenly you feel like you’ve been transported to an earlier, simpler time.
From there we were guided through the camp and the various cultural stations on offer. From traditional Arabic bread making to henna tattoos, Platinum Heritage has allowed us to enjoy, experience and learn all about the local desert culture.
Platinum Heritage Safari Night
The experience continues into the evening, when you’ll enjoy a cultural show followed by a local dinner and mingle with other travelers at the camp. This time we only had a night experience, but overnight camping is also possible (I definitely want to go next time!)
Another day in Dubai, we chose another Platinum Heritage tour. Early morning sunrise hot air balloon ride over the desert, followed by breakfast and wildlife safari. This is another out-of-body experience that I will remember for years.
