You can sail in one day to reach Tallinn from Helsinki in just 2.5 hours, explore the quaint capital for 3-4 hours, and return to Helsinki by 8:30pm. Here’s how to travel from Helsinki to Tallinn…

Day Trip from Helsinki to Tallinn
Tallinn looks into the naked eye and is quickly torn from the fairy tale picture book. The old town is certainly charming and medieval, so you’ll feel like you’re going back in time to an age of a labyrinth of small boutique shops selling everything from colorful architecture, bones such to kitschy souvenirs.

I’ll get there
The operators who create the intersections from Helsinki to Tallinn are all at similar prices, but offer a variety of services. I chose to book Viking Line Cruise At the daily intersection, we leave Helsinki at 11:30am and arrive in Tallinn at 2pm. Later that day, the ferry returns to Helsinki at 6pm, departing Tallinn and returning to Helsinki after 2.5 hours. Prices start at 22 euros, but while we highly recommend upgrading to an outside cabin with an incredible buffet, it’s a great way to enjoy food, wine and soft drinks.

Days in Tallinn
When I stepped into the dry lands of Tallinn, the distinction between the two capitals was soon found. From the newness of Helsinki to the quaint old world of Tallinn, I couldn’t wait to spend a few hours exploring the city.
Armed with maps, I was not aware of the geographical location, so I took a simple route and walked towards the church tower in the distance.
I ran up the cobblestone alley and soon found myself in the centre of the town. My first destination was Old Town Square – By the time we arrived around 2pm, we were alive and lively.
From there, I climbed to something impressive Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. A short walk down the hillside will find you at one of the few observation decks that offer impressive views of Tallinn.
Before I knew it, it had almost time to go back to the ferry. But it’s not that there’s no time-saving time for shopping! If you’re looking for antiques or souvenirs, this is a good place in the old town. For international brands, head straight Viru Center – It’s not only home to everything you want and need, but on your way back to the ferry.
