Medieval, magical and charming… Prague is one of Europe’s most memorable cities, even after only a handful of visits. Charles Bridge’s charm on icy January mornings, the beauty of the sunset on warm summer nights, and even the city covered in thick snow, is covered in thick, wool gloves to make your fingers freeze. Still, Prague may seem like a small town that has been plagued by stories for centuries, but the city of Prague spreads out in many different regions that offer its own unique talent. Here’s how you can discover the best of Prague with your self-guided Prague Walking Guide:
Know before you go: Prague for the first timer
If this is your first visit to Prague, you may have seen the charming postal views of Charles Bridge’s charm on a winter morning, interesting architecture, and perhaps the fallen victims. Each season brings a new sense of Prague, but honestly, there’s no bad time to visit. My first visit to Prague was in 2012, a thick layer of snow that went all the way to my knees, followed by a spring visit several years later. The last time I found myself in Prague was in the late autumn and early winter, but even a season visit between them brought the magic of Prague that I came to know and love. Don’t hesitate to say that the best way to see Prague is on foot, pack comfortable shoes, a bottle of water, cash for an endless amount of pit stop you’re trying to endure and get ready to see Prague!

1. Garden drill
While it’s unlikely to begin a walking tour of Prague, often unprecedented point, Vrtba Garden is the perfect positioning to start exploring Prague’s fewer quarters. Built between 1715 and 1720, the garden was built in a traditional Baroque Italian style with fully trimmed hedges in a symmetrical formation. Not only is this a complete escape from the hustle and bustle outside the entrance, but the Vrtba Garden also offers spectacular views of the surrounding scenery, making it a perfect positioning to start a walking tour of Pragu. This is one of the few “less known” attractions in Prague that visitors won’t miss, so make the most of this insider tip and make sure you have a good time here!

2. St. Nicholas Church
From VRTBA Garden, head to the left to St. Nicholas Church, 350 meters away. This church serves as the central point for Prague’s fewer quarters. Here you can see the livelihoods of this neighborhood every turn. To step inside to marvel at the Baroque architecture of this church, it replaced the 13th century Gothic church, which was also dedicated to St. Nicholas.

3. Prague Castle
From St. Nicholas Church, prepare to ascend towards Prague Castle. Don’t miss out on Prgaue Chocolat, located at the foot of the stairs and famous for its chocolate-covered almonds (with a free sample!) This is also one of the most confused castles to visit in Europe (if you ask me), and it won’t clearly show where you should head next, so if you want to make the most of your visit, consider a hosted guide or at least an audio guide. The 9th century castle fascinates many visitors every year, competing for photos of the straight security guards placed at the castle’s entrance. Stop by Golden Lane to see some artisan shops before heading to St. Vitus Cathedral.

4. St.VitusCathedral
Next to Prague Castle, you will find St. Vitus Cathedral, home to the Archbishop of Prague. The history of this Roman Catholic Church is almost as old as Prague itself, so step inside to take a step.

5. Lennon Wall
Back on the descent, make sure to stop by Lennon’s wall before stepping into Charles Bridge, Prague’s most photogenic attraction. Just before you cross the bridge towards Prague’s old town, you’ll find this graffiti wall inspired by John Lennon, complete with lyrics from a song created in the 1980s and signs of peace.

6. Charles Bridge
You definitely can’t miss your chance to cross Charles Bridge towards the Old Town. That’s why many visitors chose to visit Prague! This historic bridge crosses the Vltava River and passes the city’s biggest highlight. Although it is overcrowded on a good day, the best way to see the bridge is once in the morning, during the day, and in the evening. The bridge has 16 arches, with a total of 30 Baroque statues and ornaments.

7th Josefov
Completely surrounded by the Old Town, Josephof is a Time Warp neighborhood formerly known as the Jewish ghetto. As one of my favourite areas of wandering around Prague, today there is a wealth of bone store store, watch store, postcards and souvenirs. One of Josephof’s must-see places is the Hebrew clock above the old town. It’s under a normal clock and runs behind it.

8. Old Town Square
As the historic centre of Prague, you should never miss a visit to Prague’s Old Town Square (or a few visits!). Various architectural styles are revealed in one 360 turns, with a wealth of village life and attractions for visiting within a short distance of each other. The best way to experience the Old Town is to wander through many alleys and boutiques without planning or direction.

9. Prague Astronomical Clock
In the old town, you can wander around the crowds and get a glimpse of the astronomical clock. It’s full of legends and mystery.

10. WensslasSquare
After a complete history lesson of the oldest parts of Prague, head to Wensislas Square in “New Town” and Real Prague More precisely, one of the busiest shopping areas in the city is home to locals. It’s here that you can find many international brands and designers.

11. Prague National Theatre
Head towards the Vltava River to the National Theatre of Prague. Along the way, you pass the Cafe Louvre. This is a great way to recommend a pit stop for coffee or hot chocolate. Another great cafe stop is located just off the National Theatre, named Cafe Slavia, one of the oldest cafes in Prague where pianists play in the evenings.

12. Vltava River
Walking along the Vltava River, this is definitely one of my favourite walks in everything in Central Europe! Along the way, you can marvel at the architecture on the left, taking in the gorgeous views of the Vltava River on the right.

13. Fred & Ginger’s Dance House
Finally, we will be finishing our walking tour of Prague with the must-see Fred & Ginger “Dance House.” Not getting in the way, you can see the vast size of the city of Prague, where old tramway views pass by and views of the Vltava River.
