Local authorities said Wednesday that at least nine people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory in central Thailand.
The explosion occurred in Subhamburi province, about 95 kilometers northwest of Bangkok.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
The Samerkun Suphan Buri Rescue Foundation reported nine deaths and said two were taken to hospital in dangerous conditions.
The state government’s public relations department said one person was injured. The number of missing people was not immediately clear.
Senior police sergeant Pinyo Chanmanee said the explosion took place in the building where fireworks were produced. It was not clear if they had obtained a license.
Videos and photos of the scene show a wooden building in a green rice field has been crushed.
A similar incident in the same area in January 2024 killed around 20 people.
In July 2023, at least 10 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a major explosion in a fireworks warehouse in southern Thailand.
