Storm Leonardo has battered the Iberian Peninsula, causing massive flooding and forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes in Spain and Portugal.

Around 7,000 people in Spain’s southern Andalusia region were forced to leave their homes due to a series of storms.

Aerial footage showed areas submerged by flooding on Saturday and water levels rising at dams in the area.

The evacuees included around 1,500 people who were ordered to leave the mountain village of Grazalema, where Andalusia regional leader Juan Manuel Moreno warned that the aquifer was “filled with water” and was at risk of collapse.

Spanish police said on Friday that the body of a woman who fell into a river while trying to save her dog in Malaga province had been found 1,000 meters from where she disappeared on Wednesday.

Police have not yet identified the body, but said they believe it is that of a 45-year-old woman.
