“The defendant was granted bail in the sum of 5 million naira (2,960 euros) with two sureties. Once he met the bail conditions, he was remanded pending,” police spokesperson Olusei Babasey told AFP news agency.
Joshua will initially stay in Nigeria to recover from injuries sustained following the accident, his promoter announced on Thursday.
Matchroom Boxing said in a statement: “As reported, Anthony was discharged from hospital last night and will remain in Nigeria for the next few days.”
On Monday, a vehicle carrying the former heavyweight champion and two of his associates collided with a stopped truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the main highway connecting Ogun State and Lagos.
Two of his colleagues, Shina Gami and Latif “Rats” Ayodele, were killed.
Joshua was discharged from a hospital in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon and paid his condolences to his friends at the mortuary.
Joshua has family roots in Nigeria and briefly attended a boarding school there during his childhood. He also holds Nigerian nationality.
Lagos State Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso announced on Wednesday that Joshua had been discharged from the hospital after being clinically determined to be able to recuperate “at home.”
Gami was Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach and Ayodele was his trainer. Hours before the collision, Joshua and Ayodele posted a clip on social media of them playing table tennis together.
