A series of Russian drone attacks hit Ukraine’s Odessa region, injuring at least one person and setting out multiple fires, the State Emergency Service (SES) said on Tuesday.

The attack occurred late on Monday and caused fires at several energy infrastructure facilities, according to the SES. All fires were extinguished by firefighters.

Strikes were also reported in the country’s Dnipropetrovsk region. According to Vladislav Khayvanenko, head of the regional military administration, a fire broke out at a private company and has now been extinguished.

One person was killed in a Russian drone attack in Kramatorsk, a front-line city in eastern Ukraine, the city council announced.

According to the city council, civilian infrastructure and residential areas were damaged, with damage reported to an educational institution and several residences.

The attack comes amid heavy fighting on the front, particularly near the city of Pokrovsk, where Russian forces have advanced in recent weeks.

The two countries are locked in a stalemate over control of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy saying Russia has amassed around 170,000 troops for a new offensive.

Ukraine’s military has repelled 63 Russian attacks in the past day, the Armed Forces General Staff announced on Tuesday.

The heaviest clashes have occurred north of Pokrovsk, with the city’s industrial areas experiencing the heaviest fires.

Romania finds possible drone debris

Meanwhile, possible drone debris has been discovered within Romania’s southeastern border region following Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine’s Danube port, Romania’s Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday.

Romanian radar detected a group of drones near the NATO member state’s airspace shortly after midnight on Tuesday, and the ministry issued an alert to residents in the area.

Weather conditions made it impossible for fighter jets to fly out, but military teams were able to recover possible debris from the drone about 5 kilometers inside the Romanian-Ukrainian border, the Defense Ministry said.

Violations of Romanian airspace by drones have become increasingly frequent in recent months, as Russia has targeted Ukraine’s Danube ports across the border.

Officials said samples taken from the site where the drone debris was found were similar to those used by the Russian military.

Romania and Poland are deploying new weapons systems to defend against Russian drones after a spate of incursions into NATO airspace in recent months have exposed the alliance’s weaknesses and put Europe at risk.
