“We’re doing the right thing for (Rachida) Dati, Patrick (Cohen) and Me.” This is the shocking phrase that sparked controversy in France and stopped two French journalists on Saturday, September 6th.

Recorded without participants’ knowledge and mistakenly published by far-right media outlet L’, two journalists Thomas Legrand and Patrick Cohen sit in the Paris Café of PS National Council president Luc Broussy and socialist Mep Pierre Jouvet.

That’s when Thomas Legrand, a columnist for France Inter and editor of Rebation, uttered the sentence. Recordings start on July 7th.

Incorrectly, the journalist ran towards the mayor of Paris to attack the Minister of Culture in March 2026, and she is a candidate for Les Republic (LR).

The two journalists announced they were filing a complaint.

Patrick Cohen is also a columnist for both public service media France Inter and French Television.

Thomas Legrand’s temporary suspension

Rachida Dati calls for action to take action against the two columnists.

“Public Services and Rebates journalists claim they’re doing “anything” to remove me from the Paris elections. These are serious and unethical statements that could lead to sanctions. From now on, everyone has to accept responsibility.”

France Inter announced on Friday evening that it had temporarily suspended columnist Thomas Legrand following the video broadcast.

Legrand defended himself against the attack on Rachida Dati.

The Minister of Culture had already had a nervous exchange with Patrick Cohen in June. Rachida Dati questioned the law and her rampage against her and accusations against her.
