Hipster Guide to Amsterdam: Nearby

Amsterdam centers around a glorious canal ring that offers a great opportunity to get lost. Head to each of these regions and get real local insights into the many personalities of this charming city!

My favourite food

Jordan – The hipest food of all of them, Jordan is full of quirky cafes, bespoke boutiques and countless concept stores.

ud-west- Outside the town centre, my favorite neighborhood can wander in leisure time (especially on weekends when locals are wandering too much) is a big deal. Accommodations here are a bit cheaper so if you plan to cycle to the centre every day (don’t forget where you parked your bike!), there are also some of my favorite eateries.

Pipe – The neighborhood is centered around Amsterdam’s most iconic market. The Albert Kuip Mark works every day. Around this area are also some of the best brunch spots in Amsterdam, including my personal favorites. Little Collins.

Hipster Guide to Amsterdam: Where to Stay:

Small Boutique Hotel & Air BNB is where you can find the most authentic Amsterdam experience

Plutarser Hotel – I cannot fully recommend this place as one of my most memorable hotels stays all over the world. Housed in an old canal home mansion, the owner of the Plutarser Hotel has been buying up nearby properties for decades and building iconic luxury hotels with a unique boutique vibe.

Dylan – Overlooking the Keizersgracht Canal, this extremely fashionable, NYC-inspired hotel focuses on strong designs. Both Dyland and Pullitzer share a common, advanced approach to design, but Dylan is a bit more secluded experience.

Hotel Estheraa – If you’re into the old school Luxe, check out this time warp that feels like you’ve literally returned to the century on the most epic scale.

Canal House – Another beautifully appointed central hotel is the canal home. This is a little more stylish and a little more affordable.

Rent a houseboat – Still one of Amsterdam’s most iconic experiences is renting a houseboat and living historically like an artist in the city (now this is some of Amsterdam’s most expensive property!)

Beyond the attraction

Amsterdam is the city you’re just walking for entertainment

Flemish Frite Chewyvremink – Pass the best flights in Amsterdam. I’m hoping for a line, but know it’ll move quickly.

Three Graefjes – Down an alley similar to the alley of Diagon, a charming little cake shop in the heart of town.

Vegan junk food bar – Even if you’re not vegan, you’ll love this place. The goodness of a greasy vegan is waiting for you!

Day Trip to Utrecht

The only thing that hipsters are more than Amsterdam is visiting its “cooler cousin.” Utrecht. The easiest way to visit Utrecht is by train (30 minutes), but if you’re smart, the price of a hotel is just a small part of the price, which means you’re going to go beyond day trips.
