Quick Guide to Kuala Lumpur

Must read

If you’re looking for a quick guide to Kuala Lumpur, you’ve come to the right place. After a recent short (but incredibly sweet) trip to KL, I quickly fell in love with the invincible love of the people and food in the city (only Singaporeans are comparable to Malays!) The city is a great opportunity to splurge on some of the cheapest prices in the world.

Quick Guide to Kuala Lumpur

Before arrival

Many passport holders do not require a visa to enter Malaysia as tourists and do not even have a landing card upon arrival, making it a very seamless arrival process. Passport holders in Australia, New Zealand, UK, US, Canada, French, German, Irish, Japanese, Lebanese, Polish, South Africa, Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, UAE, Saudi Arabians and Yemen do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days.

Upon arrival

The main airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), is 50 km away from the city centre. The fastest way to get to town is the Non-Stop Express Strain (MYR35 one-way – about $10) and you’ll arrive in town in 28 minutes. The train runs every 15 minutes at peak times and every 20 minutes at all other times.

When you arrive at a budget airline (such as Air Asia), you will arrive at another airport. Klia2. Transport to the city is very similar, with fast trains reaching the city in 33 minutes at the same price for the MyR35.

Go around

Kuala Lumpur is highly susceptible to traffic congestion, making public transport by train (LRT & monorail) your best option. To get your city bearings, there is a hop-on hop-off bus that visits tourist sites with free Wi-Fi.

Go through

Bahasa Malaysia is the official language spoken, but English is very widely spoken. Here are some simple phrases to help you pass by.

Hello: Hello

Sorry, sorry:Masfan Me

thank you: thank you

What to see in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur Falls is the true joy of the city lies in slowly finding and scrambling great local food to try from local food markets, shopping markets, impressive shopping malls and street vendors.

The Tower of Petronas is the city’s most recognized attraction, and Batu Caves is also a popular stop for travelers. The Chinese town is a thriving part of the town with the perfect food to try on any corner.

Malaysian cuisine is an incredible multi-ethnic blend between Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine. There are many great local foods to try, and are there the best parts above all? They are very cheap and easy to find! Street vendors offer many of the local classics, but be sure to look for Murray sweets as well. You’re looking for a real treat!

Where to Stay in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is the best chance to splurge on accommodation as it offers the lowest prices for luxury accommodation in the world! For my stay, I checked in at the colonial style Majestic Hotel for an incredible few days. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the city, making it easy to navigate through the city if you’re short on time.
