On my short stopover Tokyo I have kept one mission in mind: to eat all the sweets in halazuk. The neighborhood is famous for its colorful works. It is famous for its ice cream, giant fairy floss, quirky clothes, and all the key shapes your heart desires. This is a guide to the best sweets to eat in Mahuku… tried and tested!

Totti Candy Factory
My first destination was Totti Candy Factory on the main shopping street Harajuku On the second floor. Cotton candy comes in a variety of colors/flavours from top to bottom as an oversized treat that is bigger than the head. Side note: You only need one to share between yourself and a few friends. These are huge!
Location | Japan, Tokyo, Shibuya, Jingumae, 1 Chome-16-5 RYU Appartment 2F

Zoo Ice Cream
My next destination was to visit the zoo’s Ice Creamery, hand over 500 yen and choose a cutely decorated animal ice cream. I chose strawberry pigs while my friend Hiro San chose the elephant. The store location is downstairs, so if you get lost, look for a street sign that points you in the right direction!
Location | Japan, 150-0001 Tokyo, Shibuya, Zimmer, Unknown Road 3 chome-20

Eddie’s ice cream
Around the corner, I trip over Eddie’s ice cream. This is a soft serve ice cream with top decorations and rainbow cones all trimmed. As someone who likes soft serve ice cream, I couldn’t say no!
Location | Japan, 1F, 4-26-28 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001

Rainbow Cheese Sandwich
Would you like to sandwich the colors of the rainbow? Yes, please! This quirky and cute eatery in Harajuku is the delicious bounty of salvation you need after all these sweets. For that reason alone we had to include it!

After that: I’ll do my shopping at Mahuku
After the sugar rush, you’d like to spend time walking through the city of Harajuku to a) a) a) absorb the atmosphere in one of Japan’s most popular regions and b) walk all of those carbohydrates! Here are some of my favorite discoveries from my time in Harajuk:
- Kiddy Land – Not just kitsch, but also a very fun toy emporium on multiple floors
- GR8 – High fashion and cutting edge design
- MOMA Design Store – From the Museum of Contemporary Art, there is this concept store full of random design objects
- solakzade – Vintage sunglasses from Japan or around the world, great if you’re looking for some off
- Big love – A vintage record store full of amazing discoveries!
