At least two people were fatally shot and three others were hospitalized after shooting Monday morning at a Reno casino, officials told The Associated Press.

A gunman who fired fired just outside the Grand Sierra Resort Casino shot several people before being detained, police said.

“The officers quickly found the suspect, but at that point, a shooting official had occurred,” police said in a statement.

“The suspect was taken into custody and taken to a local hospital. At this time, the suspect’s status is unknown. No continuing threat is known to the public.”

The victim’s condition was also unknown immediately, said Chris Johnson, a spokesman for the Reno police.

Caroline Ackerman, a spokesman for the well-known community health center, said the hospital’s emergency department had received several cases of gunshot wounds.

The shooting was reported outside the Bullet area around 7:30 a.m. Monday, Johnson said.

More than a year ago, two men were charged with fatally shooting another man who was staying at the resort in January 2024.

Reno police warned residents to leave the area. Several emergency vehicles, including several ambulances, responded outside the casino.

The Grand Sierra claims to have the largest casino floor in northern Nevada, and is only a few blocks from Renotahoe International Airport.

It is also one of the tallest buildings in the city, with nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.

Last year, President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in the resort’s main ballroom.

“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong, but we are not immune to the gun violence epidemic that holds this country,” city council member Devon Reese said in a social media post.
