Things you need to know before you go to Prague

Must read

Prague is one of my favourite cities I have visited in Europe. There are so many things I love about this city, including architecture, heartfelt Czech cuisine, and lovely locals. But that’s the charm of a unique fairy tale that keeps me coming back more. And it is the appeal of this ether that attracts many visitors to the city each year. So what do you need to know before visiting? Prague? Let’s jump in!

Three days in Prague are enough time to explore the city

The beauty of Prague is that it is compact and easy to walk in, with most of the points of interest being small nearby, so you can see all the major attractions within a day or two. There is a perfect combination of three days in Prague, especially adding one magical day to unintentionally explore anywhere. Did it take longer? lucky you! This is a classic case of something more hilarious as there are so many things to see across major attractions in this city (does the beer spa sound like yours?)

Architecture is different from other cities in Europe

Other than these rich history and turbulent past, Prague architecture directly shows just how much the city has changed over the centuries. Modern world history is less common than Jewish quarters, so you can’t leave Prague without roaming the neighborhood. If you’re passionate about history, take a free walking tour to showcase Prague’s history. Fair warning: These tours can be extremely difficult given the modern world history of Hitler’s occupation in the city.

The best way to avoid it is on foot

The old town of Prague is a living history that should be explored. Incredible architecture, antique shops, cobblestone alleys and many charms have a hard time capturing the magic of Prague in words! The bustle of the city is a good reason to get out there and see the city above the ground, but if you have a distance to walk between the accommodation and the old town, you can always use the metro to go from A to B (very easy to use and cheap!)

There are some attractions you won’t miss

Old Town Square

Prague’s historic square is not only the most beautiful part of the town, but also the finest insight into the city’s unique history. The Church of Our Lady before Tin is one of the places where people set the square in the background, one of my favorite places, and wander around the side streets and their merchants’ shops for a few hours.

Visit the Astronomical Clock to watch in the Old Town Square, as time comes to life.

Charles Bridge

While construction began in 1357, Charles Bridge was completed and became one of the city’s top tourist attractions. Stroll across the bridge in the early evening or late evening without crowds.

Lennon’s Wall

A homage to the many songs he wrote with The Beatles, Lennon Wall is one of the most heartwarming places to visit in town (and especially pleased to visit when you’re looking for a break from Prague’s harsh history!)

Prague Castle

The Prague Castle, dating back to the 9th century, is a large complex to explore and hosts one of the city’s finest views.

There is a cafe culture that you shouldn’t miss

Cafe Savoy

If you want to go back in time to the Czechoslovak era, you’ll never look for anything but enter the Time Warp, a Café Savoy. This beautiful old cafe is one of the most photogenic spots in town, but ready to wait. It is definitely the most popular cafe in town!

Cafe Slavia

Although a bit less popular, the decoration and atmosphere offered at Cafe Slavia is definitely special. I love the people who sit by the window and watch over time.

Finally, there is a third cafe nearby to visit on a coffee hopping tour in Prague. Another most beautiful cafe in Prague.

Uber is in Prague

Prague has a great public transport system (it’s especially useful if you have a budget), but Uber is always available, especially when you arrive at the airport late in the evening. There are also regular taxis in Prague, but they are expensive and in many cases the seduction seems a little too strong for tourists! Uber is a great alternative when you want to know the price before you commit. I used it on the morning when I was traveling to the station very early when it was still dark and it was good to know I would arrive on time and at a fair price!

Change your money at a reputable hotel or withdraw from ATMs

You may have already heard this from friends and family who have visited Prague, but as a reminder, listen to legends (and frankly, horror stories!) and avoid exchanging money with “unpaid” money exchangers in the city. They may not charge you a fee, but they are a huge scam and offer very disastrous fees.
