A car plunged into a crowd of people waiting to enter a busy boulevard nightclub in Los Angeles’ East Hollywood area, injured 30 people.

Local officials say the victim will be taken to a local hospital or trauma centre for medical attention. At least three people were seriously injured and eight to ten other people were in serious condition.

Los Angeles police say the driver was shot dead.

According to a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, it was not immediately clear whether the driver was shot or killed before or after the crash, or why he drove into the crowd.

The compact, civilian car ran into the line of mostly women before slamming it into the taco truck and valet stand.

“They were all in line to enter the nightclub, and there was an octopus cart there, so they… got their food and waited for them to enter,” said Adam Van Gelpen, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“The Bullett podium was taken out, the taco truck was taken away, and many people were affected by the vehicle afterwards,” he added.

People in the venue at night – Vermont helped as emergency response officials were on the way.

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was an accident or intentional. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause behind the charge that occurred on Santa Monica Boulevard.

“This is under police investigation,” Van Gelpen said. “This will be a massive investigation with the (Los Angeles Police Department) LAPD.”
