10 coolest things to see in South America

Must read

Planning a trip to South America? First of all, congratulations! There are so many incredible places to see, food, and cultures to experience on this continent. So, if you’re looking for the coolest one in South America, we have you covered.

Patagonia Chile

The best things to see in South America

Torres del Payne, Patagonia, Argentina, Chile

Like most of the following images you’re about to turn your eyes off, this really should speak for itself. Torres del Payne National Park is undoubtedly one of the most visually enjoyable sights. Lowland clouds can make it impossible to see mountain peaks, so the weather can play a major role in affecting your experience. The national park features the world’s most famous trekking, with the famous “W” route lasting for seven days.

Iguazu Falls

Iguaz is Argentina & Brazil, Brazil

As one of the world’s great natural wonders, Iguaz, located on the Argentina-Brazil border, does not need to be introduced. The waterfalls are particularly wide (over 2.7 km) and just a huge amount of them is enough to drop your jaws. But for a little adventure, try a speedboat that passes through the waterfall and experience it nearby.

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro from the Brazilian Savior Christ

Now, this is one sight you cannot miss while Rio de Janeiro is the city of Christ’s Savior. There is also a great view from Sugarloaf Mountain, neither of which needs to replace anything else. Let’s go see both!

Machu Picchu, Peru

If you’ve never heard of Machu Picchu, it’s enough to say that he must have lived under the rocks… Or the ruins. The Inca Trail is perhaps the most iconic trekking in the world, but if you don’t have the time or energy to go for a walk, you can ride a Daytrain to visit the abandoned ins from nearby Cusco. Please note that this is one of the most visited tourist attractions in South America. So there will be a crowd.

Uyuny Salt Flat Bolivia

Uyuny Salt Flat, Bolivia

Uyuni Salt Flats have attracted crowds on their own to Bolivia, perhaps one of South America’s most developed countries. South America says that “inconsistent, but contradictions” are true here in Bolivia. So you can expect the bus to be two hours late, but that will at least take you there. Brushing up Spanish is really helpful here as many people don’t speak English.

Galapagos

Marine wildlife around the Galapogos Islands in Ecuador

Many travelers claim that the Galapogos Islands off the coast of Ecuador were their favorite travel moment in South America. These idyllic islands have many islands for tourists, but the most popular is ample opportunity to see the wildlife around the area.

Atacama Desert

Chile, Atacama Desert

Visiting the Atacama Desert is two things. It’s amazing, and even more amazing. The above is just one aspect of this fascinating part of the world. It is best known for being “the driest place in the world.” San Pedro de Atacama (the town here) is also very attractive and will keep you busy for a few days!

Easter Island Moai Statue, Chile

There are places you are proud to say you visited, and then there are places you still can’t believe you visited. Easter Island is one of each. This is one of the least visited but best known places in the world. It’s a 5 hour flight from mainland Chile (departing Santiago) and is worth the extra distance.

Lapas

La Paz city, Bolivia

La Paz is a sight in itself. It is known to cause dizziness from high altitude levels, but that’s not the only thing that will turn your head. There’s a lot going on – there’s a lot going on – in fact, there’s a lot going on with every sense. But it’s an adventure!

Lake Titicaca Peru

Lake Titicaca, Peru, Bolivia

And finally, the Photohowic Lake Titicaca – located on the border between Peru and Bolivia. Sadly, when I visited South America, I had no chance to visit the lakes or surrounding villages. Because I had to suddenly leave La Paz to fly to work in Spain (and if you come to meet readers, you’ve heard of a series of my unfortunate events that took place in Bolivia). But if I spend time again, I will continue to make the path across the border from Bolivia to Peru to Cusco, known as one of the most attractive cities in all of South America!
